Desc: Norvège, la quête du Nord: Directed by Eric Bacos, Daniel Lafarge. Beginning of the journey in Bergen: the second town of Norway (285.900 inhabitants) with its 7 mountains: to go to the forest just take the funicular railway of Fløybanen to the Fløyen Mountain and you are in the forest.Near the port there are markets where we can buy reindeer sausage or sheep cheeses, and the famous fish market (living crabs, oysters, fishes).About gastronomy: in the Lysverket Restaurant set in KODE 4 art Gallery the chefs Christopher Haatuft and Paul Qui prepare dishes with fish and seafood and some herbs ( the new Fjord cuisine).Near the main place there are bronze statues which remember the Vikings time and the Hanseatic League time.Near there is Bryggen ,the wooden house neighborhood (now Unesco World Heritage site) was built before Bergen ,but destroyed many times by fires.Bergen has always a great nightlife (about 300 bars and restaurants). Then we take the Hurtigruten ship called the Coastal Express: first stop: Trindheim, a former capital of Norway: the King Olaf II is buried in the cathedral.Trindheim is crossed by a river and the old neighborhood of Bakklandet has now bars and galleries. Then the ship arrives at the Polar Circle (special ceremony for the travelers) and the great moment has come: the polar lights just before arriving at Svolvaer in the Lofoten Island. We visit Henningsvaer, a port for the fishing of the codfish ; the cods migrate south from the Barents Sea and gather in Lofoten to spawn: the small fishermen practice there the long-line fishing: besides the cods are dried (stockfish) in the open air.As the captures of codfishes has decreased, there are now important salmon farms and the smocked salmon is an important export product of Norway. In this village there is the "Galleri Lofotens Hus" an art gallery with the great collection of paintings of Northern Norway. We also visit a bakery where breads are baked in a wood stove. At Nusfjord we meet Daniel Kordan , a photographer who make photography workshops with photographers coming from all parts of the world about the polar lights. In this village some fishermen's houses have been transformed into guesthouses.Besides the Lofoten Island are a good place for mountaineering and rock climbing (the tallest mountain in Lofoten is the Higravstinden , 1161 meters above sea level). Daniel Kordan goes with the photographers to Flakstad where there is a nice sandy beach, a very good place for taking pictures. Then the ship arrives at Tromsø: an important port, the statue of Roald Amundsen remembers his explorations to the North Pole and and the Southern Pole.In this town there are the Tromsø Museum and the Tromsø University with its 6.000 students .Now 40 % of the economic incomes are coming from tourism (the winter tourism for observing the polar lights is very important). In Tromsø the visitors can take the cable-car to the Mount Storsteinen (418 meters), a nice place for looking at the polar lights or for skiing. Then the ship passes at the Cape North and later arrives at Kirkenes: the iron mines made this town famous, but now the snow hotel is also famous, the tourists enjoy sled dog rides and the fishing of the King crab.
